Is Your Garage Door Opener Safe? Know When It’s Time to Replace It.
Garage door openers made prior to 1993 were not created with safety features like photo electronic safety eyes or infrared beams. These safety features are standard for every garage door made after 1993. It is very important that you replace your garage door opener to prevent small children or pets from being injured or damage to your vehicle.
Although your garage door opener may be working today it may still pose a safety hazard and need to be replaced with a current opener that features proper safety mechanisms.
How do I know if my garage door opener is safe?
Well, first things first, check the year it was manufactured. There will usually be a manufactures label or plate on the opener device with the date of manufacture and/or make and model #. Check this for the manufacture date. If the unit was manufactured before 1993 then it needs to be replaced.
Replacement of the garage door opener is something many handyman types can perform but its best left to a professional garage door repair company.
